Administrative

Greg Hannley, CEO/Founder

Greg Hannley is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Soba Recovery Center. His vision is to provide a safe, sober environment for those suffering from the disease of addiction, which emphasizes specialized aftercare for long term success. Greg leads the Company daily through his hands-on approach and dedication to provide a tailored recovery plan for each of our clients. He is a proven successful entrepreneur in many industries and has developed a series of treatment centers in four states that focus on the model of an affordable full-service treatment facility.

Participants of Soba Recovery Center can live and recover with the serenity of the ocean and amazing sunsets of Malibu while simultaneously overcoming their addiction. Greg has been featured as a recovery expert on many broadcasts including; Larry King Live, Fox and NBC as well as abc’s 20/20. He has a passion for spreading the message of recovery and hopes to change the way America treats drug and alcohol addiction within his lifetime.

Jenn O’Hara, CFO

Jennifer O’Hara serves as CFO for Soba Recovery Center and helps to manage the series of Soba Treatment Centers. She has been with Soba in multiple capacities of their treatment environment over the last 6 years. Jennifer holds a vast array of technical skills which have been acquired from working a decade in public accounting as well as growing with Soba from the beginning stages of the Company. Her goal with Soba is to create a program that benefits each client individually with their addictions, while enhancing the community as a whole. Helping addicts recover their lives continues to be her passion since she began working in treatment. Jennifer’s education includes a bachelors from the University of Southern California in Accounting, and she currently is a CPA. She is happily married with two beautiful daughters.

Audrey Graham, Controller

Audrey Graham graduated from the University of Southern California and is a Certified Public Accountant. She has over ten years of experience, the majority of which was gained through working for Deloitte & Touche LLP in Assurance Services. Audrey has worked in an array of industries encompassing small private businesses to billion dollar international public corporations. Audrey joined Soba Recovery Center in order to be part of a Company that is dedicated to impacting the lives of their clients. She oversees the administrative functions within the Company such as accounting/finance, human resources and payroll.

Lena Christensen, Program Supervisor

Lena is responsible for oversight of ongoing programming needs and implementation of internal auditing systems, through the supervision and guidance of the clinical administrative team. She has been working as an administrator in the substance abuse field for over 3 years, assisting in the assurance of program needs, ensuring that the best quality of care is provided to clients. Her unique skills developed over time, beginning in the Real Estate industry, where she assisted in identifying and developing projects throughout California. While pursuing a degree in International Studies/Spanish at Seattle Pacific University, Lena developed invaluable skills, including detailed organization, creative problem solving, cross-cultural competency and communications, as well as knowledge of other cultures and languages. Her true purpose in life, however, stems from her own recovery and helping others find their own unique path to a fulfilled life free from alcohol and drugs.

Doug Minder, Clinical Coordinator

Doug Minder began working for Soba Recovery Center after completing fifteen months of treatment at Soba. Doug determined that he enjoyed and was valuable at the administrative side of the recovery industry.

Throughout the years, Doug has worn many hats while being employed at Soba, including assisting in medical, clinical, billing and operational administration, as well as using his talents for community outreach. Doug possesses organizational, and communication skills that are utilized to help strengthen the Company through finding solutions.

Clinical

Jessica Clark, LMFT, Program Director

Jessica Clark is Soba’s Program Director, providing clinical supervision, and individual and group therapy to clients within the residential and outpatient programs. Jessica is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) and received clinical training working with individuals with opioid dependence. Following completion of her degree, she worked as the Program Coordinator for a Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health program for 6 years and served on the program’s Co-Occurring Disorders Committee. She has also acted as supervisor to students from the University of Southern California and Mental Health America, Los Angeles’ Jump Start Program.

Christine Magnon, LMFT, Clinical Director

Christine Keller oversees the clinical program and the supervision and training of the clinical staff at Soba. She received her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT). She has significant experience working in the field of addiction and recovery in residential rehab and outpatient settings, providing therapeutic services to adolescents, adults, families and groups. Within her experience at Soba, she has enjoyed working in both clinical and administrative functions, utilizing her skills to enhance the treatment and care provided. Christine is also interested in teaching and has conducted speaking engagements at California State University, Northridge and California Lutheran University on topics including Substance Abuse Treatment, Process Work in Group Therapy, and Adolescent Diagnostic Issues.

Leila Mesghali, LMFT, Clinical Services Manager

Leila Mesghali is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She has been licensed for over 15 years, and has worked in a wide range of settings including inpatient hospital for severe psychological disorders, private practice, and primarily in the field of substance abuse and addiction. Leila is an integral part of our clinical team at Soba, wherein she facilitates individual, family and group therapy.

Dominic Valdes, ACSW, Primary Therapist

Dominic Valdes holds a Master of Social Work from California State University, Bakersfield and is currently registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW). He gained clinical experience working in Family Preservation with Child Protective Services during his graduate training and saw the devastating effects that substance abuse has on adults, families and children. He later devoted years to working as a mental health therapist providing individual, group and family psychotherapy to adolescents and their families at a co-occurring mental health disorder/substance abuse facility in the San Fernando Valley. Dominic has also worked as a mental health therapist providing individual and family therapy to at-risk children, families and addicted adults in the Downtown Los Angeles area. His clinical approach includes a psycho-dynamic and cognitive-behavioral foundation with emphasis on compassion, safety and empathy for the treatment of underlying wounds that are responsible for the pain we experience. With a personal journey into recovery from past addictions and trauma, he believes recovery is possible with spiritual, emotional and physical progress.

Cheryl Lahner, Yoga Group Facilitator

Cheryl Lahner has been teaching yoga for a number of years and practicing yoga herself since 2007. She leads yoga groups at Soba, providing a positive, safe, calm, and healing environment with a personalized approach. Her goal is to help people nourish their physical, mental, and spiritual bodies to aid in detoxification and to restore balance in their life. She is also in the process of becoming a Registered Yoga Teacher through the Yoga Alliance. Her favorite quote is “Starve the ego. Feed the soul.”

Sherry Gaba, LCSW and Life Coach

Sherry Gaba, LCSW, is a licensed psychotherapist and life coach who has helped hundreds of people cope with lifelong addictions, including substance abuse, shopping, gambling, food, sex and love, co-dependency, trauma, depression, anxiety, single parenting and divorce. Sherry appeared on Celebrity Rehab 3, 4, and 5. She also facilitated life coaching on their subsequent spin off Sober House and Celebrity Rehab’s Sex Addiction. During filming of the series, Sherry used her trademark sensitivity and compassion to help troubled cast members as they transitioned into their new sober lives with psychotherapy and life coaching tips. Sherry most recently appeared on CNN Headline News as a guest expert, as well as Inside Edition, where she spoke about Mackenzie Phillips who was on Celebrity Rehab 3. In addition, she appeared on KTLA Channel 5 as an expert on eating disorders and Fox San Diego News, Better TV, WPIX New York, CNN Prime News, Issues with Jane Velez Mitchell on HLN, Showbiz Tonight, Joy Behar on HLN, the Bio Channel: The Tragic Side of Fame and E!News discussing Celebrity Rehab and Teen Mom on MTV. Sherry’s book, “The Law of Sobriety” from HCI Publications is about recovery from addictions and alcoholism and was published in September 2010. Sherry has also been published in Cosmopolitan Magazine, Women’s World, Los Angeles Times Blog, New York Post, The Huffington Post, Hollywood Life, Elle On-line, E! On-line, Radar On-line and the New York Daily News. She has also been a guest with Martha Stewart, Jay Thomas, and Judith Regan on Sirius XM Radio. Sherry also blogs on Beliefnet.com, Counselor Magazine, and Deepak Chopra’s IntentBlog.com, In addition she was a host on CBS Sky Radio of “A Moment of Change,” a show on self discovery and positive transformation and now co-hosts the Kim Pagano Radio Show in Ventura, CA.

With over fifteen years of experience as a clinician, Sherry has worked at some of the top rehabilitation centers around such as the famed Promises Treatment Center in Malibu. Though presently she works at Soba Recovery Center, Sherry currently dedicates most of her time to her private practice in Westlake Village, CA and her media career. Sherry is passionate about helping her clients with a supportive approach to help them resolve problems and change long-standing patterns.

Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley (Van Nuys), California, Sherry had to learn the art of problem solving at a young age. At 26, she became a single mother. She had just graduated from college with a Journalism degree and was not able to pursue her passion for television and radio news to focus on raising her daughter. Once her daughter was old enough, Sherry made the choice to go back to school and entered a master’s program and received her Masters of Social Work from the prestigious University of Southern California. Sherry is also an expert and published author on the subjects of parenting, single parenting, divorce, and relationships. She is a contributing author to the book “Chicken Soup For the Soul: Tough Times Tough People” which highlights how a person can follow their dreams and succeed as Sherry has highlighting her struggles from single parenting to a successful media expert, psychotherapist, and life coach.

Healthcare and Wellness

Shahla Modir, M.D. Independently Affiliated Physician

Dr. Modir is one of the most recognized and respected physicians in the addiction recovery field, and is known for the effectiveness of her holistic approach to treatment. She completed residency training in Psychiatry at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and sub-specialty training in Addiction Psychiatry at the UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Modir is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for Addiction Psychiatry, and has extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Dr. Modir is also a licensed buprenorphine provider.

Andrea Ellis, Healthcare Services Supervisor

Andrea graduated from Los Angeles Southwest College, with an Associate Degree in Nursing. Her number one priority at Soba Recovery Center is our clients and their recovery. She works closely with admissions and and the physicians to insure that the clients receive a thorough and safe admission, as well as, discharge.  Her extensive experience includes clinical out-patient care, acute care, sub-acute rehabilitation, and detox treatment. Her passion is to ensure that the clients at Soba Recovery Center understand that she is their advocate for recovery during treatment. She is currently working on becoming licensed as a Certified Alcohol Treatment Counselor (CATC).

Edward Cunningham, D.C., C.S.C.S., Independently Affiliated Chiropractor

Dr. Cunningham is an impassioned chiropractor, coach and wellness consultant. He has assisted thousands of clients on their quest to reach maximum health expression, which starts with a well-functioning spine. Dr. Cunningham believes that chiropractic care combined with adherence to sensible nutritional guidelines and proper strength training constitutes a realistic and truly comprehensive approach to wellness. Dr. Cunningham understands that his patients deserve to live not only symptom-free and pain-free; he believes with all his heart that every human being should be supported to express their full potential. With more than a decade of personal sobriety to his credit, he is honored to provide wellness care for SOBA clients in the early stages of their sobriety, many of whom are introduced to the transformative power of chiropractic care for the first time.

Operations

Erin Thorley, Operations Manager

Erin Thorley assists in managing daily operations for the Villas and West Channel sober living communities. She has a certificate in addiction studies. She has worked in treatment since April 2004, assuming various positions in all levels of the treatment field from direct care staff to directing numerous facilities. She also has extensive experience regarding medication and medical care. Erin is a member of the recovery community and has been sober since 2003.

Marc Mahoney, Operations Manager

Marc is in charge of the daily operations of the treatment center for Soba Recovery Center. Marc has over 20 years of recovery and treatment experience, which he brings to Soba and our clients. Marc has worked in numerous positions in the substance abuse/treatment field as a Residential Technician, Case Manager, Interventionist, Outreach Specialist, Marketer, Sober Companion and Director of Admissions. Marc lived and worked for years as an actor in New York and Los Angeles as well as owning his own construction and design business. Marc feels his path through life and his own recovery has led him to this point of knowing his purpose, which is simply, “To Be of Service.” A “chance” meeting one day with Greg Hannley changed Marc’s life. He met Greg and knew he had met someone who feels the same way about helping others with the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction. Greg’s passion to help others is what Soba is about and Marc shares this sentiment. Marc is amazed and thankful “his job” is to help someone save their own life and is so grateful for this opportunity.

Ian O’Guin, Tech Supervisor

Ian assists in managing daily operations for Soba’s sober living communities. Ian has worked in the field of treatment since 2008. Ian has held numerous positions in all levels of treatment ranging from residential manager, Marketing/Business Development Associate as well as case management/counseling. Ian enjoys being a part of a client’s recovery process and providing a safe, stable, conducive environment for that process to take place. Ian particularly enjoys working with his team to aid in developing a client’s life skills, as well as strengthening their commitment to recovery. Ian firmly believes that, “It’s easy to believe in others, sometimes we just need to believe in ourselves” and “Build a life worth staying clean for”. Ian also lived and volunteered in the country of Samoa where he worked as a preschool teacher.

Debbie Brown, Tech Supervisor

Debbie has worked in the field of substance abuse recovery for many years.  She provides a full continuum of addiction support services and spiritual development. As a Crisis Management Counselor at Promises Addiction Treatment Center in Malibu, she managed and facilitated the daily operations, and served as the Alumni Coordinator. At the Salvation Army Harbor Light/Safe Harbor Center, she developed various treatment plans for both dual diagnosis cases and veterans. Her compassionate and trusting personality gives our clients and their families the confidence and comfort they seek.

Harry Dixon,Tech Supervisor

Harry helped to open the first Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center in Malibu in 1977. In 2012, Greg invited Harry to come aboard at Soba due to his extensive experience in helping hundreds of clients work on their sobriety. Harry is able to give back that which was freely and generously given to him, the Freedom from Addiction.

Jeremy Stewart, Lead Tech

Jeremy Stewart comes to Soba from McMinnville, Tennessee. He is a Soba alumni and currently enjoys over four years of being clean and sober. His goal in his role at Soba is to facilitate an environment that is conducive to healing and recovery.
